Welcome to the homepage of Dr. Jasmeen Kanwal! I am currently a postdoctoral research fellow in the School of Biology at the University of St Andrews, working with Prof. Andy Gardner on mathematical and agent-based models of social evolution. I did my PhD at the Centre for Language Evolution at the University of Edinburgh, investigating how languages evolve to become more efficient communication systems.
My academic interests are wide-ranging, but can all be connected under the theme of ‘complex systems science’—I have worked in physics, philosophy of science, linguistics, cognitive science, and now evolutionary biology. I once spent an amazing summer with like-minded folk at the Santa Fe Institute Complex Systems Summer School. You can read about my past and present research on my research page.
